1. Sensors for control of poultry shed conditions: Poultry farming is challenging in the hot and humid summer weather of Bangladesh, and this problem is expected to get worse as global warming progresses. A major part of the investment and running cost in poultry sheds is the cooling system, but it pays for itself quickly in reduced mortality and better productivity during summer. In order to ensure that the cooling systems are not run excessively, Kazi Farms' IT department has developed sensor technology to enable farm managers to get visibility into temperature, carbon dioxide and ammonia levels in the sheds so that these can be controlled at minimum cost.
2. Egg auction app: Discovering the fair market price of eggs is a challenge in a country like Bangladesh where each district town has its own network of wholesellers who buy from egg farms in large trucks and distribute to retailers (typically by cycle rickshaw van). By giving wholesellers an egg auction app, Kazi Farms' daily egg production is sold each day at auction prices determined by customer bids. Independent economists have examined this process in depth and found it to be a fair and competitive way of discovering the daily market price of eggs.
